MOWSC Conference 101

Hello Team!

With many new families on the team this year, I wanted to send out a little more information about Conference Weekend and what it entails - it's like tailgating all weekend and going to watch a few swims in between!

This is the culmination of what our entire season is building up to - the atmosphere of conference is the best feeling of team spirit we have the entire season! It's a great bonding time for swimmers and a good time for parents to get to know each other better. This is when I received a lot of advice from parents of older swimmers about how swim works! Many families describe conference as the event that "truly makes you feel like you belong on the team and get the full experience of summer swim."

You'll bring everything you would for a regular swim meet - chairs, sunscreen, plenty of water/sports drinks, sharpies, games, coloring books, snacks, etc. There will be food trucks, but having food on hand is always a good idea!

*bring some sort of fan - it's usually very hot! Search "swim mom essentials" on social media for ideas :)

PLEASE reach out to me if you have any questions about conference - we would love for as many families as possible to participate from our team.

Overall schedule:

Friday night - tent decorating (optional, but really fun) - you can leave chairs at this time if you feel comfortable doing so, but no guarantees on security!

Saturday Morning - 10 and under swimmer prelims (our warmup time is 6:20am - Meet starts at 8am)

Saturday Afternoon - 11 and older swimmer prelims (approx warmup time 2:30, Meet start time ~4pm)

*Everyone can swim Saturday if they have participated in 2 meets and have a legal time in the stroke(s) they want to swim in conference

Sunday - all day (Our warmups start at 8:40am, Meet starts~10am-~3pm, Awards after)

Finals & Relays - The top 18 swimmers + 2 alternates are invited back on Sunday to compete for points. It is possible that your swimmer could be chosen to swim relays on Sunday if they swim on Saturday, even if their times aren't in the top 20 for individual strokes on Saturday.

*Swimmers can't swim only on Sunday, they have to swim Saturday to swim Sunday (so your swimmer can't just join for a relay Sunday without swimming Saturday)

That's conference in a nutshell! It's definitely chaos, but very exciting!

And for those of you who appreciate a little more detail, here is the full, more detailed schedule from last year - it won't be exactly the same this year, but this gives you an idea of the order in which things run:
