Mini Ducks - Starting week of 6/8/26
Mini Ducks is a swim program for our future competitive swimmers with the goal of learning to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) and learn basic water safety. Once the coaches assess the swimmer’s ability to swim the length of the pool, the swimmer can start to participate in swim meets and move up to the competitive team practice sessions.
Mini Ducks are:
- Age 5-7
- Children with some water independence – able to swim or glide 3 feet without assistance, put their face in the water
- Children who are comfortable being away from parents during lesson time
- Children who can follow instructions (to sit on the side of the pool until they are called, etc.)
A parent or responsible adult must always be present and remain nearby but not in the lap pool area during Mini Ducks sessions. The goal of Mini Ducks is to train swimmers who are close, but not quite ready to practice with the competitive (age group swimmers) team and prepare them to join the competitive team by the end of this swim season or the next.
*If your child is not able to do these things, please consider swim lessons prior to signing up for Mini Ducks. If you do not intend for your child to try to compete in any swim meets please sign up for swim lessons with one of the Keene Trace pool swim instructors.
How do I know if my child should join Mini Ducks?
Swimmers of any age who can easily swim the entire length of the pool (freestyle) should join the competitive (age group swimmers) team. If you are unsure of your child’s swimming abilities, you can have your child evaluated by the coaching staff prior to the start of the swim season to see where they would place your child.
In order to ensure safety, Mini Ducks will be capped based on the number of swim instructors able to be present at Mini Ducks Sessions. The maximum number of swimmers per Mini Ducks group will be 30 swimmers, but may be less than that depending on the number of personnel from year to year.
*Once registration is full, a waitlist will be started. If some Mini Ducks move up to the competitive team during the first 2 weeks, waitlisted swimmers will be notified.
There will be two different Sessions for Mini Ducks: (Starting June 8 and ending July 9, 2026)
Mini Ducks – Mondays and Wednesdays 10-10:30am
Mini Ducks – Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-10:30am
*Only sign your child up for one session, either Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays
